Miscellaneous Medications: These
medications do not fit cleanly into any of the above
categories, but all have a defined role in the treatment of
rheumatic disease. Agents discussed below include long-term
therapies for the control of gout (allopurinol, probenecid),
medications to stimulate the flow of saliva in patients with
Sj�gren�s syndrome (pilocarpine, cevimeline),
antihistamines (diphenhydramine, hydroxyzine, loratidine,
fexofenadine, cetirizine), antibiotics used for
their effect on inflammation (minocycline, trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole),
agents used to treat cutaneous (skin) manifestations of
rheumatic diseases (dapsone, thalidomide), and the
multi-purpose drug bromocriptine.
